Thanks to DQ Miracle Treat Day

It a special Miracle Treat Day for sure.

It wasn’t too long ago Jenny Pelc’s twins James and Alex were experiencing heart failure in the womb. They had to be delivered early, at 32 weeks,  and went right to the Hurley Children’s Hospital NICU for specialized care. It was a trying time and quite a different experience than Jenny’s delivery of Madelyn, the twins’ big sister.  The Hurley team was there for all of them. “They took care of my whole family,” said Pelc. ” I mean as a mom of preemie babies, its not something that you can prepare for.”

On July 25th, Jenny Pelc and her family went to their Burton Dairy Queen to celebrate Miracle Treat Day. She went as a Miracle Mom, but also as a former employee. Jenny worked at the Dairy Queen when she was in high school. “It’s so wonderful that there is businesses like Dairy Queen to support Hurley and Children’s Miracle Network because you never know when you’re going to need them,” said Pelc.

Dairy Queen has raised around $150 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. DQ has been partners with Hurley Medical Center since 1992, donating $557,111 to Hurley, helping local sick and injured kids.

On July 25th, miracle families like Jenny’s spent the day at our local Dairy Queens, creating and eating Blizzards, meeting DQ team members, talking with the media and encouraging everyone to come out and get a Miracle Treat. For every Blizzard sold, at least $1 was donated to CMN Hospitals. “It’s so important  we’re raising funds  for children that are less fortunate,” said Dairy Queen franchise owner Diane Piorawski. “They’re in the hospital every day of the week, several months, some even a year at a time for their stays. Whether is means coloring books, books to read or medical equipment that we purchase for them.”

We are grateful for everyone who came out to support this year’s Miracle Treat Day. Thank-you to our media partners for providing television and radio coverage. Thank-you to our miracle families. Thank-you to Dairy Queen for helping to create miracles year after year, Blizzard after Blizzard.
