Get ready for a Blizzard! On October 28th you can help kids be kids by purchasing a Blizzard treat at a participating Dairy Queen location. This exciting (and sweet) fundraising opportunity will not only help kiddos here in your local community, it will also make an impact felt around the world to over 25,000 patient families that we see each year. Kids like Ruth-Evelyn!
A few years ago, Ruth-Evelyn (or RE for short), set out on her very first bike ride. To help her achieve this dream, RE’s prosthetist custom-made a device that rests against RE’s shoulders and connects to her bicycle’s handlebars, helping her steer safely and confidently. As she does with most things, RE got the hang of biking pretty quickly—and she’s been riding ever since! She recently stopped by the Orthotics, Prosthetics and Seating department at Gillette to get adjustments to her device so she can continue to ride as she grows.
Like RE, many patients continue to work with Gillette’s Orthotics, Prosthetics and Seating (OPS) team throughout childhood. OPS provides assistive devices that help kids play, learn, communicate and enjoy life – devices like artificial limbs (prostheses), braces (orthoses), power wheelchair controls, wheelchair seating and communication devices.
Through your generosity – DQ’s Miracle Treat Day participation, Blizzard purchases, or Round-Up, Dairy Queen’s adoption of the OPS program at Gillette is providing invaluable support so that every day they can continue to deliver life-changing care to children who have complex medical needs.
