Silsbee Police Officers Make a Splash on Miracle Treat Day
Dairy Queen has been a partner with Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals in Southeast Texas for over 30 years. This year, Dairy Queen in Silsbee went above and beyond on Miracle Treat Day to help us raise money for sick and injured kids at our local CMN Hospitals. “I wanted to help raise money for Miracle Kids as much as I could. If there is something extra I can do to help, I will; It’s just what I do,” says Tina Linderman, FalCo DQ‘s Area Marketing Supervisor.
Tina made sure Silsbee DQ’s Miracle Treat Day was an event the whole community could get involved in. She invited Silsbee police officers, Chief Blackwell and Officer Whitmer, to man the dunking booth. Tickets for three shots each were available for a $1 donation to CMN. DQ bracelets were given as prizes for kids who dunked the officers. Tina included the police department because she says they are “always willing to volunteer when you ask. When it comes to kids and helping the community, they are more than glad to help.” Their participation made the event more successful and provided hours of entertainment for the kids including Charles, one of our Southeast Texas Miracle Kids.
Charles is a seven year old who suffered from Osteomyelitis and spent two weeks of his summer at our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, St. Elizabeth. “The whole experience was scary and overwhelming but the love of our family and friends and the wonderful nurses and doctors who took care of Charles made it better,” remembers Zetta, Charles’ mother. Charles and his family were invited to be celebrated at Miracle Treat Day in Silsbee. They received free lunch and Blizzards and as many shots at the dunking booth as he and his little sister, Maylan, wanted. Tina says she invited Charles and his family so they could see “that there are people who want to help kids like him” who stay in our hospitals. We want our families to know that the community is here to support them. “I also wanted others to see Charles as a child,” says Tina. It’s good for the community to see the face of someone they have helped so they realize the impact their donations have right here in Southeast Texas.
At the end of the Miracle Treat Day, Tina says, “DQ has always been involved with CMN. I love to help children in need and to help people in general. I would do it every day if I could! I’m just glad I’m able to help support such an amazing organization.”
