Welcome, Dairy Queen!

Do you know what happens when you plant a red spoon?

Well, when you shower it with love and sprinkles, and you can grow a…Dairy Queen!

That’s just the recipe Jane and Michael Blackburn used to build and open their first Dairy Queen Grill & Chill in Midlothian, VA. Located on Charter Colony Parkway, their doors opened on July 19th to the public offering full lunch and dinner menus, along with – you guessed it – their iconic tasty treat menu full of delicious Blizzard options, Dilly Bars, custom cakes and more!

Our local Champion family was invited to visit just before the grand opening for a special tour and a chance to taste-test some of their offerings. Oh boy, were there smiles all around!

One additional feature that makes a Dairy Queen restaurant so special is their focus on local community and the unique philanthropic activities they host. Jane and Michael have been passionate supporters of children’s healthcare for many years, contributing more than $350,000 to the local children’s hospital in their hometown of Harrisonburg where they’ve owned and operated two other Dairy Queen locations for over 20 years. With them, they bring their philanthropic point-of-sale business model which includes an invitation for every guest to round their total up to the next dollar and have that extra change donated directly to Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU – making every purchase not only delicious but also impactful on the lives of local children. “We choose to support the local children’s hospitals in the communities where we do business because we understand that it’s these hospitals that are always there and ready to help families on the days when they need it most. Children and ice cream go hand in hand, and we love to help create smiles and stories,” said Jane Blackburn.

Be sure to stop by this new Dairy Queen – Charter Colony soon, round up your total for Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, and help welcome the Blackburn’s to Richmond, VA!
